Endurance athletes think a lot about what they eat on race day, but everyday food matters too. Olivea makes high-phenolic extra virgin olive oil and a hydroxytyrosol supplement, and it's one of the nutrition brands we carry at Endurance Update. Here's what Olivea is and what's in the lineup.
What is Olivea?
Olivea sources its olive oil from small family farms in Messinia, Greece. The olives are hand picked early in the season, cold pressed within hours by mechanical means only, and rested under nitrogen in stainless tanks until bottling. Olivea publishes its lab reports for each harvest on its website.
What does "high phenolic" mean?
Polyphenols are natural compounds in olive oil, and they're part of what gives fresh, early-harvest oil its bold, peppery taste. A high-phenolic oil is one that tests with a high polyphenol content. Olivea sets a minimum of 1,000 mg/kg every harvest for its Ultra High Phenolic oil.
The Olivea lineup
- Ultra High Phenolic Extra Virgin Olive Oil ($45) is made from 100% Olympia olives grown around Kalamata. It's USDA Organic and single origin. For the October 2025 harvest, Olivea reports 1,046 mg/kg polyphenols by NMR and 874 mg/kg by HPLC. It's meant to be taken by the spoon: one to two tablespoons a day, straight or drizzled over finished food.
- Olivea Hydroxytyrosol Supplement ($40, 30 capsules) contains 20 mg of hydroxytyrosol per capsule, inside 400 mg of early-harvest Koroneiki extra virgin olive oil. Every lot is third-party tested. Take one capsule a day, with or without food. It comes in a jar or a refill sleeve.
