What is H2O Audio? A Guide to Waterproof Headphones for Swimming and Training

H2O Audio SONAR 2 PRO waterproof bone conduction headphones – Endurance Update

Long pool sets go by a lot faster with music. H2O Audio has been making waterproof headphones for swimmers for more than twenty years, and it's one of the audio brands we carry at Endurance Update. Here's what H2O Audio is and how to pick the right setup.

What is H2O Audio?

H2O Audio was founded in 2003 in San Diego, California by water sports lovers who wanted to take their music into the pool and ocean. Today it makes waterproof headphones and music players for swimmers, runners, cyclists and triathletes, plus sweatproof headphones for land training.

For swimming

  • SONAR 2 PRO with MP3 & PLAYLIST+ ($149.99) is built for swimmers. It uses bone conduction, is IPX8 waterproof, stores up to 8GB of music without a phone, and has a slim removable goggle clip.
  • TRI 2 PRO Multi-Sport with PLAYLIST+ ($219.99) adds PLAYLIST+, H2O Audio's way to save streaming music for offline listening without a phone, plus app control. It works in the water and on land.
  • TRI 2 Multi-Sport ($149.99) is a waterproof bone conduction headphone for swim, bike and run.
  • STREAM DM (from $79.99) is a waterproof MP3 player with Bluetooth that works with bone conduction and in-ear headphones, sold alone or bundled with SURGE headphones.
  • SURGE SX10 ($49.99) and SURGE+ ($39.99) are in-ear waterproof headphones for use with a waterproof player.

For running, riding and the gym

  • RIPT ULTRA ($249.99) are over-ear sport headphones with active noise cancellation and removable, washable silicone ear cushions. There's also a ZWIFT X RIPT ULTRA edition.
  • RIPT LITE ($79.99) are lightweight, sweat-resistant earbuds with noise cancellation. They are not for swimming.

H2O Audio also makes swim goggles, including the BLISS ($49.99) with flat lenses.

How to choose

  • Mostly pool swimming: SONAR 2 PRO.
  • Triathlete who wants one set for everything: TRI 2 PRO or TRI 2.
  • Prefer in-ear sound in the water: STREAM DM with SURGE headphones.
  • Indoor riding and gym work: RIPT ULTRA.
